THE cycle lanes are opportunistic and cheap (‘Fatal accident’ fears on bike lanes spark call for installation of speed warning signs, November 30).

Safety has barely been considered. Properly engineered, properly financed and properly separated from pedestrians, cars and buses are the type of cycle lanes that will attract new cyclists and be safe for everyone. A proper assessment of how road and pavement space is needed and used is the first step. Come on Glasgow City Council. Get on with the hard work.

CRACKS in roads (Fresh fury over development in West End after giant crack tears up road, November 30)! Our roads must be the worst in Europe and I say that from extensive travels.

The SNP bang on about the benefits of EU membership. Our services and environment say different ... Prague, Budapest, Gdansk – yes, they are being made beautiful with our contributions, we are not.

Mind you, the crazy cracked cement paving outside Tennent’s on Byres Road is looking like a work of art. Is the repair on the collapsed manhole at the bottom end finished yet? I was trying to organise a birthday party for it!

ONCE again we get the usual diatribe from the SNP conference.

Independence is once again demanded but can someone please tell me where the money that they are happy to spend is actually coming from. We have no oil revenue and nobody is working as a result of the SNP closing businesses – but still they want independence.

When are they going to realise that the SNP are the party that killed 2400 care home residents and staff.

But it appears that SNP followers couldn’t care less as long as they get independence.

CREAM (featuring Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker) are arguably the best ever group to emerge from the 60s after The Beatles. In their short career, they played a number of gigs around the UK before focusing on North America, and I believe that among these were two shows at the Locarno in Glasgow in July and August 1967.

I am researching a “people’s history” of Cream and would love to hear from anyone who may have seen either of these shows or any of their other UK performances. I can be reached at iwasatthatgig@gmail.com.
