CHRISTMAS isn’t cancelled this year for residents in Bellsmyre. Santa is coming to town.

A young couple from Dumbarton and the Vale are bringing Santa Claus to the streets of Bellsmyre with their own Merry Myre Christmas event.

Laura and Scott Dickson were sitting at home one evening talking about how they still could make the festive period special this year with the current coronavirus restrictions.

Laura told the Reporter: “Every year we go to the grottos and shows with our son and daughter. We were brainstorming on what we were going to do this year.

“It is especially difficult as our son is three this year and it will be the first time that he will know who Santa is.

“My husband joked about going round the streets in a truck dressed as Santa and we thought ‘actually why can’t we do that?’.”

Scott got the go ahead for his idea after posting it on Facebook and receiving a positive reaction from the community.

She said: “His phone honestly blew up with comments. The Bellsmyre community were so generous.

“We received messages from people asking how they can help and what did we need.”

The couple will be teaming up with The Kitchen Depot in Dumbarton to provide the ‘Santa Sleigh’ and there will be party mascots that will leave bags of reindeer food on the fences for each child in the area.

She said: “I can already feel the buzz in the area. Everyone is just really excited.”

Louise Laing, the co-founder of the The Kitchen Depot, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Laura and Scott. They are amazing people for trying to bring joy to the town.

“We will be providing the truck so Santa can go and visit all of the children of Bellsmyre from a social distance.

“We are so excited to make Christmas extra special this year.”

The Merry Myre event is only available to people who live in Bellsmyre. Residents will be reminded on the day to stay in their gardens at all times whilst Santa is visiting.
