THE Robin House children’s hospice in Balloch is inviting members of the public to join its first-ever virtual festive candlelight service this weekend.

Every year Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), which runs the facility, holds a Christmas Candlelight service for families, supported by the organisation.

But because of the coronavirus restrictions, this year the service will be broadcast to a worldwide audience via Facebook and YouTube.

The service will be held on Sunday, December 13 at 3pm, and will be streamed live around the world from the beautiful Ardoch estate near Loch Lomond, which was gifted to the charity at the beginning of the year.

CHAS chaplain Amanda Reid said: “Members of the public are also very welcome to attend to reflect on what has been an unprecedented and difficult year for us all and during the service you will be invited to light a candle at home as we remember loved ones together.

“The event is open to everyone, from all backgrounds, all faiths or none, and will be an afternoon of music, Christmas readings and poignant reflection as we approach the festive season.”

This year’s festive celebrations at Robin House are going virtual with staff hosting Christmas Zoom parties, pantos, carol concerts and more.

And as Santa is classed as a key worker, he will be video calling some of the children supported by the charity to hear all about their Christmas wishes.

The charity has also recently launched their biggest-ever fund-raising appeal, urging residents in Dumbarton and the Vale to support their children and families this Christmas.

The CHAS Christmas appeal, which includes a radio advert and the charity’s first-ever television advert, was launched across Scotland last month.
