DUMBARTON’S cyclists, walkers and wheelers are being asked to share their views on how to improve a popular path along the River Leven.

The Scottish Greenways Programme, run by Sustrans Scotland and backed by funding from Transport Scotland, is allowing people to submit their ideas through an interactive map of the River Leven Path.

The path, a section of which was closed earlier in the year to allow SP Energy Networks and Balfour Beatty to carry out work on electricity cables in the area, is used by many Dumbarton and the Vale residents for exercise.

But some sections are also affected by litter and fly-tipping, and now ideas on making it more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable are being asked for in an online consultation.

Kristen Layne, Greenways programme coordinator at Sustrans Scotland, said: “We want to work with the communities of Balloch, Dumbarton and the surrounding areas to shape this exciting investment in their local route to make it more welcoming, attractive and accessible for everyone.

“We hope to hear from as many people in the area as possible.”

Councillor Iain McLaren, convener of infrastructure, regeneration and economic development at West Dunbartonshire Council added: “This is a popular and well-used path, and that is why we are working together to make it as welcoming, enjoyable and accessible as it can be for both residents and visitors.

“If you use the path, or live locally, please share ideas of how you think it can be enhanced – your views are extremely important to us.”

The consultation, and more information about the project, can be accessed at RiverLevenPath.co.uk and will be open for comments until January 31, 2021.
