A MAN who was found lying drunk in a Cardross street allegedly assaulted and abused police officers who tried to return him home.

Police attended a report of a man lying intoxicated in the village’s Darleith Road, right, at around 3pm on Tuesday, December 22.

After identifying the man as a 60-year-old local resident, officers attempted to return him to his home address as he was under the influence of alcohol.

However, when they arrived, rather than enter his home, he became aggressive towards the officers and refused to calm down.

According to police the man’s behaviour escalated, and he then threw a golf ball at one of the officers.

He was then placed under arrest and reportedly began to struggle, allegedly kicking an officer on the leg before being subdued.

He was taken to Clydebank police office, but reportedly continued shouting and swearing, using sectarian language, at officers during the journey.

The man is now the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal on suspicion of disorderly conduct and police assault.
