A West Dunbartonshire town has beaten Chelsea and London in the top ten baby names inspired by locations over the past decade.

Alexandria was the seventh most popular name for girls, based on places around the globe.

According to new research, 41,006 babies in the UK and US over the last 20 years have been named Alexandria.

Sadly the research doesn't reveal how many of the parents concerned were inspired by the second largest city in Egypt, and its population of 5.2 million, rather than by the historic jewel in the Vale of Leven's crown and its 13,000 residents.

But it does disclose that a total of 863 parents in the UK have named their baby girl Alexandria in the last 20 years.

Famous Alexandrias include Democratic US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, US model and folk singer Alexandria Morgan, and Scots singer-songwriter Alexandria Thom - better known as Sandi Thom, whose debut single, I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair), topped the UK singles chart in 2006.
