SHOP staff from Dumbarton have got their kit off to help raise money for a cancer charity.

Twelve team members at the Dunelm store in Clydebank – including workers who live in Dumbarton – stripped down to the basics to each pose for a photo in a 2021 calendar to help raise money for their company’s chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support

The idea came to sales assistant Jay McKellar in November last year when she was out shopping and heard the Tom Jones classic Leave Your Hat On, as featured in the 1997 smash hit film The Full Monty.

Jay said her mind kept changing the lyrics to “Leave Your Mask On”, which she then thought would make a great calendar to highlight the importance of wearing face masks.

She told the Reporter: “I mulled the idea over for a while before asking anyone.

“We decided to do it for Macmillan Cancer because it is our company’s charity partner, and we really wanted to fundraise as a store.

“It took a wee while to find a few brave souls to agree and finally we had enough people to fill the calender which was amazing.”

Jay spent a week of annual leave off work organising the pictures to get the calendar ready in time for the new year.

She said: “ I ended up being in store six days out of the seven on my holiday.

“I didn’t really have anything else planned so it was fun to do and certainly had a few laughs. At the end of the day any money raised will be a great achievement and that is what matters the most.

“I want to thank every one of the staff members who helped put the calendar together. It is something that is really special and we can remember during these tough times.”

Each month features one of the saucy staff members all wearing face masks whilst artfully posing for the photo with different themed items for props.

The store staff even managed to feature a mother and daughter duo.

Erin Byron, a sales assistant at the store, said: “ Since the coronavirus pandemic started cancer charities are struggling more than ever. The cause is so close to the hearts of the staff, so they decided to create the calendar to raise funds awareness and a smile for the community.”

Each calendar costs £10 and will be available at the “click and collect” desk at the shop’s front door.

The staff members want to remind customers that the calendars can be purchased when picking up your order.

Please try to avoid making a separate journey to purchase a calendar due to current coronavirus restrictions.
