A FURTHER eight lives have been lost to coronavirus in West Dunbartonshire, according to official figures published today.

The latest deaths, reported by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) in figures released on Wednesday, take the total number of Covid-19 deaths inn West Dunbartonshire beyond 200, to a total of 202.

The NRS figures reveal that the latest eight deaths bring the total to 24 in West Dunbartonshire so far in 2021.

In the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area, which covers Dumbarton and the surrounding areas, 94 deaths relating to Covid-19 were recorded over the seven days from January 18.

West Dunbartonshire has the 14th-highest total among Scotland's 32 local authorities.

Weekly figures nationwide show the number of Covid deaths has risen from 373 in the week commencing January 11, to 448 in the most recent set of data.

Across Scotland, there have now been 7,902 deaths where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate since the start of the pandemic.
