DUNBARTONSHIRE’S new Vice Lord-Lieutenant says she is “honoured and delighted” to have been chosen for the role.

Linda Moffat, whose appointment was recently approved by the Queen, will represent Her Majesty at ceremonies and special occasions in the area, such as 100th birthdays, and will identify people and organisations in the area deserving of royal recognition for their service.

Most of the Lieutenancy’s work is on hold because of the pandemic, but Linda says she’s looking forward to getting stuck into the role once the easing of limits allows her to do so.

Linda, who was appointed after the previous Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Jill Young, was chosen to become the area’s Lord Lieutenant on the retiral of Michael Gregory, said: “I’m very honoured and delighted to have been appointed to such a prestigious and historic role.

“The fundamental principle concerning the office of the Lord-Lieutenant is to act as the Queen’s representative in the county, so I take tremendous pride in being asked to fulfil some of those responsibilities.

“Once these lockdown restrictions are lifted, it’ll be wonderful to get into the grassroots community and do the jobs that we in the Lieutenancy need to fulfil.”

Originally from Lincolnshire, Linda has lived in the area for 25 years.

She served with the Women’s Royal Naval Service in 1984 as a shore-based operations officer and had spells at HM Naval Base Clyde and at the Royal Naval Air Service station at Yeovilton in Somerset.

She was part of the organising teams for the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and the Glasgow Garden Festival two years later.
