DEATHS related to Covid-19 rise slightly but remain low in West Dunbartonshire over the past three weeks.

Figures released on January 20 showed 12 deaths related to the coronavirus, before the number fell to eight deaths a week later, then three in the week up to January 31.

The latest National Records of Scotland (NRS) report says there were five deaths registered in West Dunbartonshire which mentioned Covid-19 on the death certificate in the week between February 1 and 7.

The latest figure brings the death toll in the region to 210 since the start of the pandemic.

Glasgow had the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in the week from February 1-7, with 56, while in North lanarkshire had 37 and Edinburgh 26.

The NRS death total is different from the count of deaths published daily by the Scottish Government because the latter is based on deaths of those who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The figures from NRS include all deaths where coronavirus (including suspected cases) was mentioned on the person’s death certificate.

An update on loosening lockdown restrictions is expected next week from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
