A DUMBARTON Scottish SPCA staff member is set to run four miles every four hours for 48 hours to raise money for the charity.

Animal care assistant Stuart Bissland, who works at the charity’s Dunbartonshire animal rescue and rehoming centre, will take on the David Goggins 4x4x48 challenge, a gruelling charity endurance run on March 6 alongside other runners across the country.

Stuart has been described as “mad” by his co-workers for daring to take the challenge on.

Stuart said: “I saw this challenge online and instantly wanted to take it on, although the rest of the team at the centre thought I was a bit mad when I told them about it.

“To complete the challenge, I’ll need to get up very early, as the first run starts at 4am.

“From then on, I’ll be running four miles every four hours for a full 48 hours. The only chance I’ll get to sleep will be in between each four-mile run.

"I’ve been building up my running slowly over the last month or so.

“I now go running about four or five times a week to train and I’ve even done trial runs in where I’ve run every four hours over a 24-hour period.

“The money I raise will be going directly to helping all the wonderful animals in our care and making a real difference to the lives of animals across Scotland.”

Anna Devine, director of fundraising for the Scottish SPCA said: “We’re so proud to have amazing people like Stuart who are willing to not only care for and rehabilitate animals but fundraise too.

“We really hope everyone will get behind Stuart’s efforts and help him raise as much money as possible for Scotland’s animals.”
