A PUPIL from Dumbarton has been unveiled at Dunbartonshire Leisure’s latest Active Schools Young Sport Stars for March.

Daniel McLaughlin, a Primary 2 pupil at Knoxland Primary School completed the “Race at your Pace” challenge during January, clocking up an amazing 56 miles.

His original target for the challenge was 15 miles, but he surpassed that easily, so changed it to 30 miles which he then beat again.

So, his pushed his target higher to 50 miles which he also has now succeeded.

Daniel also plays football for Dumbarton United 2014’s team.

Whilst training has been postponed he has been keeping as active as possible, joining his mum and dad in taking part in virtual exercise classes during lockdown.

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokesperson said: “A big congratulations to Daniel from Active Schools and all at West Dunbartonshire Leisure.”

Meanwhile, if you want to play your part in shaping the young Dumbarton and the Vale sporting stars of the future, West Dunbartonshire Leisure are looking for more volunteers to help get children in Dumbarton and the surrounding area more active.
