The mayor of Kendal rubbed shoulders with stars as TV cameras swept into the Lake District for a new series.

Councillor Alvin Finch joined comedian Rosie Jones and TV personality Scarlett Moffatt for the filming of Channel 4's Trip Hazard: My Great British Adventure.

The show, which aired last Friday, saw Rosie and Scarlett sit down with Cllr Finch for a meal. After making Cumberland sausages with food historian Ivan Day, the mayor was served with one of the pair’s attempts.

Following his appearance on the show, Cllr Finch revealed he had an enjoyable day filming with Rosie and Scarlett.

“I had a good day with them,” he said.

“I hadn’t met Rosie or Scarlett until the actual filming, but once the ice was broken it was great. They are really funny and nice people.”

During the show, viewers were told that the duo would be sitting down for a meal with an unnamed, ‘celebrity guest’.

Cllr Finch did not tell anyone that he would be appearing on the show and was inundated with text messages from friends after it aired.

He said: “I had messages from people in Wales and Bolton after they watched the show.

“Loads of people didn’t even know I was on it, I didn’t tell anyone.

“People were watching thinking: ‘Who would be the guest?’ then they saw me.

“It was quite amusing.”

In addition to eating with the mayor, Rosie and Scarlett visited Kendal Castle, where they met battle re-enactors.

With non-essential businesses now allowed to open under the Government’s roadmap, Cllr Finch is hopeful the programme will result in more tourism.

He said: “It is not about me really; it’s about publicising Kendal and letting people know we are open for business, we have loads of things to come and see, such as our lovely castle.

“Hopefully, people have watched the programme and they have been inspired to come and visit us."

Grange’s Greenbank Farm also featured in the show.

Rosie and Scarlett spent the night as part of their ‘stable stays’ experience, which saw them sleep next to the farm’s horses.

Tamara Alexander, co-owner at Greenbank Farm, was thrilled to host the duo at the farm.

She said: “It was great fun.

“They were so funny both on and off-screen.

“They said it was a really different and unique experience for them and had a lovely time at the stables.”

In addition to visiting Grange, Rosie and Scarlett went to William Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage in Grasmere and rode a tractor in Ulverston.
