ANOTHER two people have lost their lives to Covid-19 in West Dunbartonshire in the past week.

Despite millions being vaccinated and restrictions being eased thanks to slower infection rates, the pandemic continues to affect families locally.

The latest figures shows that between April 26 and May 2, there were two deaths in the area in which Covid was mentioned on the death certificate.

The new deaths come after three deaths from Covid were reported in the week prior, and means that the number of people who have died from Covid in West Dunbartonshire in 2021 is 65.

The total number of Covid-related deaths recorded in West Dunbartonshire is 243 from when the pandemic began last March.

Figures from across the country as a whole reveal the lowest weekly death total for Scotland in six months.

A total of 19 deaths relating to Covid were registered across the country in the seven days to May 2 - down 4 from 23 the previous week.

In total, 10,097 deaths have been registered in Scotland where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate, according to the statistics.

Of these registered this week, the majority happened in hospital at 11, with seven in care homes and 1 at home or in a non-institutional setting.

The statistics are published weekly and cover all deaths registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

They differ from the lab-confirmed coronavirus deaths announced daily by the Scottish Government because the NRS figures include suspected or probable cases of Covid-19.
