A DUMBARTON pupil has won a prize in a poster competition aimed at encouraging adults to stop smoking in West Dunbartonshire’s green spaces.

Lauri Doherty of Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School won the senior category, with a poster urging adults to “Keep your ciggies away from kiddies”.

Orlagh Prior, who attends Whitecrook Primary, won the junior category of the Smoke Free Playparks contest with artwork highlighting the health risks of the habit and the slogan “Please don’t smoke where children play”.

Her design will now be displayed across the region to make people consider the effects of passive smoking on young people.

The competition organised by West Dunbartonshire Council and the local Health and Social Care Partnership saw primary five and S2 pupils take part.

Smoke Free Playparks is one component of the joint West Dunbartonshire Substance Use Prevention Strategy.
