PEOPLE in Dumbarton and the Vale are being asked to have their say on whether local essential businesses should close on New Year’s Day.
The Scottish Government launched a consultation last week to determine whether implementing legislation mirroring the rules on Christmas Day would be supported.
Public finance minister Tom Arthur said: “The last year has shown how much we all rely on retailers and their staff.
“As we look at recovery and building a sustainable economy we need to consider what will support businesses and their staff in the future.”
The 28-question survey is available at consult.gov.scot.
Shops with over 280m of floorspace have not been allowed to open on January 1 since the introduction of the Christmas and New Year’s Day Trading (Scotland) Act in 2007.
