The final of the Euro 2020 championships is finally here, with a Wembley stadium showdown between England and Italy guaranteed.

While it's the Three Lions' first major final since 1966, Italy have had more recent success, having won the World Cup in 2006.

But have the Azzurri won the Euros before?

Here's everything you need to know about the Italian side's winning history...

Has Italy ever won the Euros before?

The Italian team has won the Euros before, but only once.

They will look to replicate their 1968 win on Sunday, having already racked up two second place finishes in 2000 and 2012.

What other major tournaments has Italy won?

Italy was last victorious in the World Cup in 2006, adding the trophy to their wins in 1982, 1938 and 1934.

Gli Azzurri also won the Olympic football tournament in 1936.

However, tragedy struck the team in 1949 when the majority of the team was killed in a plane crash.

In the aftermath, their early successful stint came to an abrupt end, with the team unable to proceed past the group stages of the next two World Cups.

73-years on, Roberto Mancicni's current side is unbeaten for 33-games in a row, a run they will try to extend with a win over England.

Has England ever won the Euros?

England has never won the Euros, with this year's tournament marking their first ever spot in the final.

Despite making the semi finals twice before, the team have never quite been able to convert, and on occasion hasn't even qualified for the tournament.

With the final in front of a home crowd, Gareth Southgate's side will look to use the fans' support in what is set to be a tough match.

England's last major final in 1966 resulted in victory as they lifted the World Cup trophy in Wembley Stadium, following a game which saw six goals scored.
