NUMBER savvy Dumbarton pupils had their skills displayed at the Scottish Open golf championship after winning a national contest.

First year pupils from Our Lady and St Patrick High School scooped top prize in the Maths on Flags competition run by Maths Week Scotland, Winning Scotland, and Aberdeen Standard Investments, the tournament’s sponsors, on July 5.

The youngsters were tasked with creating complex sums equalling each of the holes in golf that could be used on the course during the tournament, which ran at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick from July 8 to 11.

The class will also receive Amazon vouchers worth £100, as well as a set of pin flags signed by the tournament winner.
