A DANGEROUS driver who was caught speeding through a Loch Lomondside village has been banned.

Christopher Sim was caught by police on the A82 and A83 in Tarbet on June 3, 2020.

Sim, of Laurel Drive in the Craigneuk area of Wishaw, had been due to stand trial at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Thursday, July 29 on a single charge of dangerous driving.

But when the case called, Sim’s solicitor said his client was pleading guilty to an amended charge.

Sim admitted performing an overtaking manoeuvre through a solid white line and driving in excess of the 30 miles an hour speed limit.

The 28-year-old had originally been accused of performing an overtaking manoeuvre without having a clear view of the roadway ahead, but that element of the charge was deleted with the agreement of the Crown prior to Sim’s guilty plea.

At Thursday’s hearing, Sheriff Maxwell Hendry was handed a list of Sim’s previous convictions after the guilty plea was confirmed, and told defence lawyer Brian McGuire: “That’s not a record that’s to his credit.”

Mr McGuire said: “I acknowledge that. But he was last before a court in 2019 for a 2017 case, and in 2018 for a 2016 case.

“I’m advised there has been a considerable change in his circumstances and he is now in full-time employment.”

Deferring sentence until later this month for background reports, Sheriff Hendry told Sim: “This is a worrying record, and all I can properly say to you at this point is that the court will need to keep every sentencing option open.

“In the meantime you are disqualified with immediate effect, and you must not drive.”
