THERE has been one death in the local authority related to Covid for the first time in almost two months.

Official statistics by the National Records of Scotland show that between Monday, August 2, and Sunday, August 8, a resident lost their life in the area where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate.

The same week last year, there were 15 deaths from the virus, months before the vaccination programme started. The majority of residents have now had their jab.

The latest figures were published as Level 0 restrictions were introduced throughout the country, and schools in the area are expected to restart from their summer holidays on Tuesday, August 17.

The total number of Covid-related deaths recorded in West Dunbartonshire is 245 from when the pandemic began last March.

Nationally, Scotland has recorded 51 coronavirus-related deaths in the past week, up from 46 the previous week

Earlier last month the official figures revealed a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people in the area of 234.3 in the week ending July 26, compared to a Scotland-wide figure of 165.6 placing West Dunbartonshire second highest in the country,

The NRS statistics are published weekly and cover all deaths registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
