A VALE man unleashed a stream of foul-mouthed and homophobic abuse towards police when they responded to reports of drunken and disorderly behaviour.

Ryan Rainey, 33, of Halkett Crescent, Alexandria, was found by police in Carrochan Crescent on July 7.

A hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on July 30 was told Rainey was immediately hostile and took an aggressive stance.

He started shouting in their faces “f*** off”.

Officers repeatedly asked him to stop shouting but Rainey replied, “f*** off, what the f*** are you going to do?” and “I will knock you out”.

When they went to arrest him, he tensed his arms and tried to pull away and had to be taken to the ground.

Rainey continued his tirade and called cops “p**fs” and then, during a journey to Clydebank police office, shouted “you f***ing mongrels, I will punch your c*** n” and called them “f***ing rats”.

Rainey’s crimes were aggravated by prejudice relating to disability and to sexual orientation.

Rainey appeared in court from custody, having previously pleaded guilty to being aggressive to police, shouting, swearing, threatening violence, uttering offensive remarks and resisting attempts to arrest him.

Defence solicitor Scott Adair said his client would welcome the opportunity for a drug treatment and testing order (DTTO) assessment.

Rainey had previously been put on a community payback order in 2018 before custodial sentences were imposed.

Sheriff Frances McCartney said Rainey had a lengthy unexpired portion of a jail term but released him on bail for him to be considered for a DTTO.

She said: “I’m persuaded to give you an opportunity to at least have the assessment process. If there is any offending in the next six weeks or if you miss any appointments, I will impose the whole unexpired portion of the sentence.”

Rainey is now subject to a 7pm to 7am curfew until he returns to court on September 7.
