KIND-HEARTED punters at a pub in Bowling are preparing to give a helping hand to an elderly villager who lost hundreds of pounds to a bogus workman.

The owners of the Bay Inn are inviting members of the public to join them for coffee, sandwiches, and cake at 11am on Saturday, September 4.

The money raised from the £5 entrance fee will be given to the 84-year-old woman from the village, who had a four-figure sum stolen by a cold-hearted criminal who claimed he was ‘checking the water supply’ when he turned up at her Dumbarton Road home.

The incident happened at around 11.30am on Tuesday, May 18.

There will also be entertainment for children at next month's event, and a raffle, where a top prize of an overnight stay on a boat is up for grabs.

An online fundraiser set up by the pub’s staff is also looking to raise £500 and can be found by clicking here.
