A COMMUNITY food support charity has announced an opening date for its new cafe in the area.

Food for Thought previously applied to West Dunbartonshire Council for “change of use” permission for the shop in the Artizan Centre, next door to its base in College Way.

A supporting statement lodged with the application said that the café, now called ChariTea, “would be open to the public while supporting those in the community who are less fortunate”.

It also promised that the cafe would be “focused on sustainability, with a green approach to its use of plastics and food serving materials”.

The statement said the proposed eatery would have a “pay it forward” option, enabling customers to pay for a meal or hot drink for someone in need.

The plans also included a “saved food” section where customers can buy food saved from disposal by local supermarkets at a heavily reduced cost.

A spokesperson for Food for Thought said: “We are delighted to have an opening date for ChariTea and welcome everyone along to our open day on Saturday, September 4.

“We are excited to be creating a community hub for people in our community to come along and enjoy a safe, comfortable environment to socialise.

"After the last 18 months we feel this is needed to help ease the isolation caused by the pandemic.”

Food for Thought was set up with the aim of delivering emergency food aid to those in need throughout West Dunbartonshire.
