A COMPANY boss has been jailed after being caught driving while banned twice in the space of a week.

Sheroz Tahir, managing director of medical supplies wholesaler Cynosure, was caught behind the wheel near Loch Lomond in June.

And just five days later he was stopped again by police officers who recognised his car in Clydebank.

The 29-year-old appeared from custody at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing on August 17.

He had previously admitted driving while disqualified and driving without insurance on the A82 at Inverbeg on June 19, and driving while banned on Kilbowie Road in Clydebank on June 24.

Tuesday’s hearing was told that police were on patrol in a marked vehicle on the A82 when they received a radio message at around 7.45pm on June 19 about a complaint over the manner of driving of a white Range Rover.

At the time of the Inverbeg incident Tahir was on bail on a separate matter and was on a curfew requiring him to stay within his home address at Low Parksail, Erskine between 7pm and 7am.

Tahir – who, the court heard, has a degree in accounting – had been held in custody since June 24.

His solicitor said Tahir had suffered “significant financial loss” as a result of being remanded in custody.

She also said Tahir had become addicted to anti-depressants after the death of his grandmother, while his mother had died from Covid.

“He had been using prescription drugs as a crutch to cope with bereavement,” the solicitor added.

“He has plainly breached a number of court orders against a backdrop of poor thinking whilst addicted to benzodiazepines.”

Tahir was sentenced to 106 days, backdated to June 19, but on his release will be subject to a community payback order and will have to do 120 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.

He was also banned from driving for 31 months.
