DUMBARTON's Patrick Harvie has been given a ministerial role in Nicola Sturgeon's new government.

The former Dumbarton Academy pupil has served as co-leader of the Scottish Greens since 2008, and has been an MSP for the Glasgow region since 2003.

The one-time civil servant, who worked with the Inland Revenue in Dumbarton, will take on the title of minister for zero carbon buildings, active travel and tenants' rights in the SNP-Green power sharing deal.

Mr Harvie said he was "thrilled at the opportunity to drive forward policies that enhance peoples' lives while supporting the urgent goal of tackling the climate emergency as we emerge from the pandemic".
