SCOTRAIL has announced plans to slash its ticket prices for some passengers for a limited time.

Students at all Scottish universities will benefit from half-price fares on off-peak services from today to September 26.

And if an open off-peak return is bought within these dates, the last date it will be valid until ill be October 25, meaning the discount can last until next month.

Students need a valid student ID when buying their ticket, which can be bought from a staffed station or on-board if travelling from an unstaffed station. The offer is not available online and advance bookings are not required.

There is no limit to the number of times students can take advantage of the offer within the travel period.

TransPennine Express has also released a student-friendly discount in time for Freshers' Week, allowing scholars at Glasgow University, Strathclyde University, Glasgow Caledonian University, City of Glasgow College, The Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to get half off their tickets.

In order to take full advantage of the savings, people under the age of 26 years old or full-time mature students, need to purchase a 16-25 railcard and cite the code TPESTUDENT.

Tickets can be purchased online via the TPE website or using the TPExpress App where people can pay using Apple or Google Pay or PayPal. E-tickets are also available allowing customers to use their phone instead of a paper ticket.
