VILLAGERS in Cardross held their annual autumn beach clean last weekend – and declared it another great success.
Despite a rather dreich morning more than 50 volunteers came out to help collect rubbish from the shore.
Bob Murray, from Cardross Community Council, which organised the event, said: “Once again it was heartening to see so many youngsters, including members of the local Scout troop, keen to play their part.
“Around 30 bags of rubbish were filled, much of it plastic bottles and cans, with quite a bit of glass and one vehicle wheel. A huge half-buried sheet of plastic was dug out which would otherwise have broken down over time into tiny micro-plastic fragments.
“Overall there appeared to be a reduction in the amount of rubbish washed up this time, but it’s still disappointing that so much is washed up to make our Beach Clean necessary.
“We are again grateful to CardrossCAN for their help in swelling the numbers of volunteers.
“As always, our thanks go to everyone who got up early on Saturday to help clean our beach.”
