THREE weeks of roadworks on the A82 near Loch Lomond start this weekend.

Overnight works on a two-kilometre stretch of the A82 from Kenmore Wood to the north of Ardlui will take approximately three weeks to complete.

Motorists are to benefit from an improved road surface once the roadworks have been completed, according to BEAR Scotland, with the £470,000 investment by Transport Scotland aiming to create a safer and smoother journey for road users.

Works will begin this weekend and are expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions, taking place between 8pm and 6am each night.

No works are planned for Friday or Saturday nights.

To help ensure the project can take place safely at each location, a series of restrictions will be implemented but access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

The schedule of work is as follows:

  • A82 Kenmore Wood – Sunday, October 10 to Wednesday, October 13. A road closure will be in place between Tarbet and Crianlarich during overnight working hours. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A83, A819 and A85.
  • A82 Ardlui Station – Thursday, October 14 to Sunday, October 17. A road closure will be in place between Tarbet and Crianlarich during overnight working hours. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A83, A819 and A85.
  • A82 north of Ardlui (Phase one) – Monday, October 18 to Wednesday, October 20.
  • A road closure will be in place between Tarbet and Crianlarich during overnight working hours. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A83, A819 and A85.
  • A82 north of Ardlui (Phase two) – Thursday, October 21 to Tuesday, October 26.

A 10mph convoy system will be in place during overnight working hours.

The A82 will remain open during the daytime to keep disruption to a minimum, with a temporary 30mph speed limit remaining in place where appropriate, as road users will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and to share information about the project in advance.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative said: “This £470,000 project on the A82 will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety of this section of the route for road users.

“The traffic management proposed, involving road closures or the use of a convoy system, is essential to the safety of roadworkers and motorists given the narrow road widths present at these locations.

"We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the required work overnight.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance.

"We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
