DUMBARTON primary school pupils have recorded a special message for world leaders ahead of COP26.

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference is set to arrive in Glasgow on October 31, bringing together leaders from all across the globe in order to fight for the future of the planet.

And Dumbarton’s schoolchildren have a special message for those leaders, with St Patrick’s Primary pupils coming together as part of the Dear World Leaders campaign by eco-charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Standing outside the school, the youngsters formed to make the message “There Is No Planet B”, captured with drone photography by local snapper PixByPedro.

Lucy-Ann Harris, learning for sustainability co-ordinator at the school, told the Reporter: “Our school has a history of being passionate about climate change. Keep Scotland Beautiful asked schools to get involved to send a message to world leaders.

“We got the drone in from Pedro and we asked the kids the message they wanted to say, and they voted for ‘There is no Planet B’.

“We thought it was quite catchy, the kids quite liked the take on words. Rosa Hollaway from P6A suggested it at the committee.

“We need to do something about climate change now.

“It’s so important for the children to be aware of the global problem. We worry about things like illnesses and terrorism, but the kids are aware that if we make one small change together then the impact can be massive.

“Equipping children with knowledge, I think the children get so involved – they love having that power of being able to make a difference.

“I think it’s so important for the kids to get involved to get their voices heard.”

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokesperson added: “Pupils from St Patrick’s Primary School are reminding world leaders ‘There is no Planet B’ as they raise awareness ahead of COP26 next month.

“Passionate about climate action and keen to make a difference, some of the school’s ‘Climate Champions’ came up with the slogan to send a clear message highlighting the urgent need for action to save our planet.

“The picture demonstrates the school’s commitment through the ‘St. Patrick’s Voices for Change’ action plan and has been submitted to Keep Scotland Beautiful to feature in a photobook which will be gifted to the First Minister.”
