A HALDANE man, who threatened to disclose indecent images of his ex, had his court sentenced deferred so he could work on a golf course in Europe.

Stephen Rennie finally appeared for sentencing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on October 12.

He admitted to a range of offences under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 in April this year but was spared punishment for six months – so that he could spend the summer working on a golf course in Sweden.

Rennie, listed in court papers as living in Miller Road, admitted engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive of his partner, or ex-partner, between September 1 and October 7, last year, at Alexander Street in Renton and elsewhere.

He repeatedly called, sent social media messages and emailed his former partner after their relationship had ended, while also asking her to unblock his telephone number from her mobile so he could contact her.

The 35-year-old also admitted threatening to disclose indecent images and footage of his ex if she did not contact him.

His defence solicitor Scott Adair said that his client had been on “good behaviour” since his last hearing.

He said: “He was allowed to go to Sweden to carry out work and he has came back last week. He will go out again in March/April next year where he would be employed again.

“It is clearly not a usual deferred sentence, but having been on good behaviour for six months I wonder what the maximum would be.”

Sheriff Fraser said: “I haven’t heard the circumstances of this case but in terms of reading it seems relatively serious. I have no reason to doubt what I’m told.

“Sheriff Higgins indicated that had you been on good behaviour as you have that Level 1 order would akin to that.”

Rennie was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work in the community.

Addressing Rennie, the sheriff added: “But obviously it is in your interest to do it much sooner.”
