A LANDSCAPER who threatened to kill his former partner in Dumbarton has been fined for his “unacceptable behaviour”.

Paul McGhee, of Castlegreen Street, Dumbarton appeared at the town’s sheriff court for sentencing after he admitted a charge of threatening and abusive behaviour.

Fiscal depute Heather Galbraith told the hearing that on 8pm on August 23, 2019 McGhee’s partner arrived home after being out with friends. An argument began between the couple as McGhee wasn’t happy with her socialising.

His partner asked him to leave the house and police were called. When speaking with police she told them that McGhee had been in her face yelling at her, but couldn’t remember was what was said.

However, on June 23, 2020 at 9.10pm McGhee’s partner received a phone call from him.

McGhee became irate during the conversation and made comments such as “you’re a junkie”, “get to f*** out of my life”, “I’ll slit your throat”, “I’ll knock you over in a car” and “I have f*** all to lose you wee boot”.

Defence solicitor Scott Adair said: “From March to July he wasn’t able to work, and his separation issues with his partner led to him drinking at a level excessive to what he should have been.

“I think he realises that now.”

Sheriff David Hall said: “These offences are nasty, in particular the phone call you made on June 13 and the content. It is simply not acceptable.

“You shouldn’t have behaved in the way you did.”

The sheriff fined McGhee £650 plus a £20 victim surcharge and handed him a community payback order with two years of social work supervision.

He was also ordered to completed 150 hours of unpaid work.

The sheriff also imposed a non-harassment order banning McGhee from any form of contact with his ex until November 2023.
