The generosity of people in Dumbarton can be seen outside a church in the town - where bags of essentials have been tied to a 'railing of care'.

St Patrick's Church in the town's Strathleven Place asked members of the public to donate jackets, coats, hats, scarves and gloves for those most in need in the local community.

The initiative was met with praise on social media.

Twitter user Stuart Carr wrote: "The railing of St Patrick's Church Dumbarton. Bags tied with coats, gloves, scarves, gloves and hats for pick up. Well done to all organisers/donors."

Another user added: "Well done indeed, but still heartbreaking that it’s even required."
