THREE people have appeared in court charged with murdering teenager Caroline Glachan in Renton more than 25 years ago.

Donna Brand and Andrew Kelly, both 42, and 43-year-old Robert O'Brien, all of Dumbarton, appeared in private at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Thursday.

None of the three made any plea or declaration during their brief court appearance.

All three were committed for further examination and were remanded in custody pending a further court appearance within eight days.

The body of 14-year-old Caroline was was discovered in the River Leven, near to Place of Bonhill, at around 4.10pm on Sunday, August 25, 1996.

Announcing on Thursday morning that three people had been arrested and charged in connection with her death, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Grainger, of Police Scotland's Major Investigations Team, the senior investigating officer on the case, said: “I would like to thank the members of the public who have assisted with our investigation and those who have come forward with important information surrounding Caroline’s death.”

The search for Caroline's killer was restarted in 2016, with detectives hoping that advances in DNA technology would help with the search.
