A DRUNK who crashed his car into a lamp post, flipping it over, has been banned from the roads for two years.

Harvey Ward was out driving at 2.10am on April 5 this year with a female passenger, taking her from a home in Bonhill to O'Hare.

As he drove at excessive speeds, he went into the wrong side of the road, swerved around, lost control and collided with the lamp post. It flipped the car sideways.

Residents from a neighbouring home helped Ward and his passenger from the vehicle and police arrived a few minutes later.

The passenger had cuts to her knee and Ward appeared to be unharmed but dazed.

A roadside breath test found he had 60mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, nearly three times the limit. He was negative for cocaine or cannabis, Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard last week.

Ward was taken to Clydebank police office but while in the van, he began to shout and swear. He called cops "f****ts" and "suck my sausage".

At the station he was asked to provide a sample of blood.

In reply to caution and charge, he asked "what street was that?" and "that's my job f***ed".

Ward later pleaded guilty to driving dangerously, to driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and to shouting, swearing, acting in an aggressive manner, uttering homophobic remarks and sexual remarks. The last charge was aggravated be prejudice relating to sexual orientation.

Defence solicitor Stephen McGuire said his client did lose his job, and he recognised "the custody threshold is easily met".

Sheriff John Hamilton imposed a community payback order for Ward to do 220 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months. He was admonished for his comments to cops.

He disqualified Ward from driving for two years, reduced from three because he pleaded guilty. He must resit the extended driver's test to get a licence back.
