A DISTILLERY worker was caught behind the wheel at more than four times the legal drink limit.

Michael Anderson pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week to have 92mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath on October 21 this year. The limit is 22mg.

The court heard police got a call that a possible drunk driver had left his place of work. At 5.50pm, officers saw the 53-year-old, of Bishopbriggs, stop at the side of the A82 Stirling Road east bound.

He had a passenger with him and there was a strong smell of alcohol.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Paul said Anderson worked at Loch Lomond Distillery, in Alexandria, and had been with a work colleague and stopped and had a drink.

“He is completely ashamed of his actions,” said Mr Paul. “He is hoping to keep his job.”

Sheriff David Hall fined Anderson £500 and banned him from the roads for 16 months.

He can reduce that by four months if he takes a drunk driver rehabilitation course.
