A MURDERER who stabbed a man to death in Renton 14 years ago has died in prison.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed this week that Alexander Wilson - who was handed a life sentence in 2007 after admitting killing Thomas Taylor - had died in custody.

Thomas was killed by drug addict Wilson in a "frenzied" and unprovoked attack just yards from his mother's Tontine Park home on June 4, 2007.

He had left the house to run an errand for an elderly neighbour when Wilson stabbed him five times, landing two fatal blows.

A brief online statement published by the SPS read: "Alexander Wilson, 53, a prisoner from HMP Perth has died on December 13, 2021.

"He was convicted at [the High Court in Glasgow] in 2007.

"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the procurator fiscal.

"A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
