A COVID test centre in Dumbarton was deliberately set on fire in the early hours of New Year's Day, according to police.

Firefighters attended the blaze at the facility in a car park in Risk Street at around 12.40am on January 1.

No-one was injured and the fire was extinguished.

Police said there had been no impact on the services provided at the test centre.

According to police, an item was thrown at a canopy at the centre at around 12.20am, causing it to catch fire.

Detective Constable Thomas O’Donnell said: “We are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage from the area and the surrounding area and I’m confident it will provide useful information on the suspect and the incident.

"However, I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0262 of January 1.

Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give your information anonymously.

The walk-through testing centre in the car park next to the former Carlton bingo hall in the town opened to the public in March 2021.
