A BURNS supper due to take place in Helensburgh this weekend has been postponed.

The organisers of the Helensburgh Burns Club event have announced that the supper, due to be held on Saturday, January 15, has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 26 at Lodge St George in West Princes Street due to the Scottish Government’s Covid restrictions on indoor gatherings.

Tickets for the rescheduled event, costing £30, are available by emailing secretary@helensburghburnsclub.com.

On the peninsula, however, plans for Cove Burgh Hall's first Burns supper for many years later this month are still on schedule.

Tenor and popular broadcaster Jamie MacDougall will take the chair and provide musical entertainment at the event on Saturday, January 29, at which Burns specialist Professor Gerry Carruthers is giving the Immortal Memory.

SNP president Mike Russell will deliver the toast to the lassies which will be responded to by Labour’s Jackie Baillie.

Actor Ewan Miller will address the haggis and recite Tam O' Shanter, while other musical entertainment will be provided by award-winning traditional singer Robyn Stapleton.

The village's own Stephen Adam will accompany both Robyn and Jamie.

Tickets are on sale now at coveburghhall.org.uk. Attendance will be capped at 10 tables of eight to maximise social distancing, and tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis.
