A TEENAGER who headbutted a stranger whilst shouting ‘Possil’ in a park in Balloch later apologised to his victim for his conduct.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, approached a group of people in Balloch Country Park and asked where they were from.

The procurator fiscal told Dumbarton Sheriff Court the accused then asked one of the members in the group if he was from the Possilpark area of Glasgow, before immediately “squaring up” to the victim and shouting “Possil” three times.

During the incident on July 22 last year, the teenager, who is from the Glasgow area, then assaulted the stranger by headbutting him to the nose causing him to stumble backwards and bleed whilst the lout walked away.

However, the fiscal depute told the hearing that he returned a short while later to apologise to his victim for his actions.

The teenager’s defence solicitor said: “He was 15 at the time and intoxicated.

“There is positive engagement with the social work [department] about his unpaid work [from a different offence].”

Sheriff John Hamilton said: “This incident itself in some aspects it is minor but unless you take the steps offered you will end up in a lot more serious trouble.

“So please, take what’s offered and avoid getting into more trouble.

“It is unpleasant for you, so please take the advice you possibly can.”

The sheriff placed him on a structured deferred sentence of a community payback order for 12 months under social work supervision.

A further review was set in May which has been transferred to Glasgow Sheriff Youth Court.
