The teacher of a four-year-old highland dancer who has gone viral on social media says her student is a “very clever” little girl.

Margaret McInnes teaches Lucy Clark at the Margaret Rose Dance School and was full of praise for the youngster whose performance video has now been seen over 700,000 times online.

The footage shows Lucy jumping over swords - as is the tradition of the old Scottish dance – as crowds of people watch on as part of SummerFest at Loch Lomond Shores on Sunday.

But she takes an unfortunate tumble during her routine, only to get right back up and continue her performance, much to the delight of the watching revellers.

And teacher Margaret stressed what Lucy did was far more difficult than it looked.

Speaking to the Reporter, she said: “It’s very difficult because, unless you dance you wouldn’t realise just how clever it was.

“The fact that she fell down, and then picked herself up after missing two bars of music and got right back on to where she should have been.

“She’s a very clever little girl.”

Margaret revealed Lucy has only been dancing for a year and was full of praise for just how great a student she is.

“There are not many four-year-olds who can do those dances right through from start to finish,” Margaret added.

“She is very successful. She must have over 200 medals now.

“She just seems to be taking the highland dancing world by storm.

“We are all very very proud of her, she works hard and as I say she is very clever.

“And she practices at home, so she is very good.”

Audrey Calder, of Loch Lomond Shores, which celebrated its 20th birthday with the festival, agreed that Lucy and the dance group as a whole were an inspiration to everyone.

She said: “She is a wee star. Determined, gorgeous, talented wee girl.

“All the girls are brilliant. They are always very welcome at Loch Lomond Shores and they are always incredibly popular.”
