A charity is encouraging children in Dumbarton and the Vale to channel their inner superhero as part of International Youth Day.
Mary’s Meals, which helps feed schoolchildren in some of the poorest areas of the world, is marking the day on Friday, August 12 with a free activity pack designed to teach youngsters about life in the countries where Mary’s Meals works.
The group feeds hungry children every school day in 20 countries including Yemen, Malawi, Liberia, Kenya, Zambia, Haiti, India, Syria, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Thailand, Myanmar, Uganda, South Sudan, Niger, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Benin, Ecuador, and Romania.
The pack is full of activities for kids and was inspired by a young girl named Upile, 13, who eats Mary’s Meals at her school in Malawi.
She says: “When I grow up and finish my school, I want to be a nurse. I want to help people.”
The activity pack includes a film featuring Upile – as well as a colouring sheet, a word search and materials for little ones to design their own superhero mask.
Dan McNally, head of grassroots engagement at Mary’s Meals, said: “This fantastic pack is full of activities that will keep kids entertained this International Youth Day.
