A BELLSYMYRE woman has confessed to repeatedly kicking a dog on the body, grabbing hold of a child and repeatedly hitting her partner.

Patricia Goffin, of Maryland Road, carried out the attacks earlier this year.

Goffin appeared for sentencing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week - but will have to wait to find out her fate after a judge told her he needed more information before deciding on the most appropriate way to punish her.

Goffin had previously pleaded guilty to a series of charges arising out of an incident at a flat in Cornock Street in Clydebank on May 30.

The 29-year-old admitted assaulting her partner by repeatedly attempting to strike him on the body; causing a dog unnecessary suffering at the same address by repeatedly kicking it; and seizing hold of a child and struggling with them while shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence.

Following her guilty plea, sentencing had been deferred until Tuesday, October 11 to allow social workers time to prepare a background report.

But on reading the contents of that report, Sheriff William Gallacher told Goffin’s lawyer that he needed to know more about Goffin’s background before passing sentence.

Sheriff Gallacher said: “This is a very different report. There are many things that cause me huge concern.

“I think I am going to ask for a psychological assessment so I know what order I can make, and one that she will understand.”

Addressing Goffin the sheriff added: “I am quite worried about what I read in the report.

“I am quite worried that you don’t quite grasp the charges that surround you and that might affect other people, or that you think that everybody else is responsible.

“And a lot of the time that is not right.

“I am going to get a report from the psychologist who might assist with what I do.”

Goffin will return to court for sentencing at a later date.
