A DRIVER who crashed into a brick wall in Renton whilst high on prescription drugs has been warned she could face jail if she offends again.

Lee Ann Don pleaded guilty to being unfit to drive through drink or drugs when she crashed into a brick wall on Renton Road at its junction with New Cordale Road on May 19 last year.

At Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week, procurator fiscal Fiona Griffin said Don had been seen swerving in and out of lanes at around 8.15am on the morning of the incident.

Ms Griffin continued: “She was observed to attempt to overtake a vehicle and nearly colliding with another vehicle on the road.

“The vehicle she near collided with followed the accused vehicle due to the concerns of the manner of her driving.

“The accused was then observed to collide with a brick wall at the end of the junction she was driving along.

“The other driver had got out of her vehicle to speak with the accused and she noted she appeared to be drowsy and under the influence.

“Police were thereafter contacted and attended. When speaking to her they noticed her speech was slurred and incoherent.”

The 41-year-old’s defence solicitor, Stephen Maguire, acknowledged the situation could have become very different and told the court: “The consequences could have been worse and she accepts that. She plead guilty at an early opportunity.”

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said: “It was quite clear that you were not in control of the car and that means anything at all could happen.

“Something did happen, but it could have been something much worse.

“You could have knocked down a young child for instance, and that would have been with you for the remainder of your life.

“If there would be a further such offence, then the court would start to consider custody.”

Don was disqualified from getting behind the wheel for two years.

She was also fined £300 which, she can pay back at £10 per fortnight.
