A MAN who recklessly drove on the A82 at excessive speeds in a police chase has had his case deferred so he can seek legal advice.

Christopher Lucas, of North Street, Alexandria, originally pleaded guilty to driving his car dangerously on the A82 near to Inverbeg Holiday Park on June 21 last year.

During the incident he repeatedly drove at excessive speed, overtook various road users at high speed and entered the opposing carriageway when it was unsafe to do so.

The 55-year-old failed to complied with road markings and did thereafter drive at excessive speeds in a police pursuit. On the same day he admitted to a second charge of failing to stop the car when required by a police constable.

Lucas appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on January 24 for sentencing without a lawyer, but told the sheriff that he thought he pleaded guilty to a different charge.

Sheriff William Gallacher said: “As matters stand I don’t have a discretion. I must disqualify you if I am dealing with the charges as they stand right now. This is not an easy bit of road. A lawyer might be able to give you advice and then we can see what happens after that.”

Sentencing was deferred until next month so Lucas can seek legal representation.
