Young gymnasts in Dumbarton could see their facility snatched away from them as councillors prepare to make make crunch budget decisions.
One parent has spoken of her "disappointment" after West Dunbartonshire Gymnastics Club was told its facility is under threat just one week before a the budget is finalised.
Mairi Walker's 10-year-old daughter, Cara, attends the club, which operates out of West Dunbartonshire Activity Centre.
More than 550 members train at the facility, with children also travelling from Argyll and Bute.
The club was notified of the facility's potential closure on Wednesday, February 22, just one week before the West Dunbartonshire Council meets to finalise the budget on Wednesday, March 1.
Ms Walker said: "I was very surprised and confused that there was such little notice given.
"For it to come one week before the council meets meant there wasn’t much time for any kind of response.
"I think everyone understands that the council has to make cuts - there is a limited budget.
"But I think there needs to be some kind of consultation. It’s just very disappointing."
The facility is one of seven facing closure as the council seeks to streamline its community centre provision.
Sites such as Bowling Hall and Bonhill Community Centre are also under threat.
In a report detailing budget saving options, the council said reducing the number of facilities would bring the area into line with neigbouring local authorities.
Club development coordinator Luisa McFarlane said: "As a club we are extremely shocked and saddened to hear of this and that no one has approached us to discuss this potential issue and agree on a suitable solution that would benefit us all."
The club provides classes six days a week in both competitive and non-competitive gymnastics.
It offers a scholarship to local children who would otherwise be unable to attend, and runs a weekly disability training session in partnership with Dumbartonshire Disability Sports Club and West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust.
The club provides a pathway for young gymnasts in the area to access new skills and training, with many local volunteers going on to join the coaching workforce.
Ms McFarlane added: "In short, we refuse to accept that the facility is 'not being fully utilised'."
A final decision on budget cuts will be made when councillors meet on Wednesday evening.
Parents and coaches from WDGC are planning to demonstrate outside the council's offices ahead of the meeting.
Ms Walker added: "We want to see some sort of consultation for them to review this facility.
"Due process needs to be taken when their considering where they are making cuts.
"There are a lot of children and parents who do not want to see this happen.
"I think as a club, there is a way forward if we’re given the chance to co-operate with the council."
West Dunbartonshire Council has been contacted for comment.
