THERE was success for the men’s over-55s team at Helensburgh Tennis Club at the weekend, as it secured a win in the quarter-final of the spring knock-out cup.

Playing away at Glasgow’s west end club, Hillhead, Helensburgh’s Harry Gould and Keith Love brushed aside their opponents 6-3, 6-0.

On court one, Bill Ram and Bobby Kerr lost their opening set 4-6 in a long and very closely fought tie.

In fact, it took so long that they were only at 2-1 in the second set when Harry and Keith finished their match and it became apparent that Hillhead could not win the match so conceded the second set, giving Helensburgh victory.

The team play Newlands on Sunday away from home and they will need to be on their very best form to go through to the final.

Meanwhile, the recent Christian Aid fundraiser saw the club raise £600 from donations and the raffle.

A spokesperson for the club thanked everyone who supported the fundraiser and Ann McKelvie and her team for putting on the event.
