AN emergency meeting has been arranged to help tackle "appalling scenes" of anti-social behaviour in Balloch.

Dumbarton's MSP Jackie Baillie has expressed her concern over recent incidents, including three alleged stabbings, and is bringing all relevant agencies together for an urgent summit.

This includes ScotRail, Police Scotland, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority, British Transport Police and West Dunbartonshire Council.

She has also invited the Community Safety Minister, Siobhian Brown, Transport Minister, Fiona Hyslop and the Minister responsible for National Parks, Lorna Slater.

We previously told how three teenagers were rushed to hospital and a man was arrested after an alleged fight broke out in Balloch on June 9.

Three days ago a man was rushed to hospital following a serious assault in Alexandria.

And then a day later four men were arrested following a crack-down on antisocial behaviour and disorder in the Loch Lomond area.

Earlier this month, police launched a campaign which aims to crack down on anti-social behaviour which blights Balloch Park during the summer.

They vowed to crack down on public drinking and littering, as well as more serious offences.

Jackie Baillie said: “People who stay within Balloch and the surrounding areas deserve to be able to go about their business without the threat of violence on their doorsteps.

“The police and other agencies are all trying their best to tackle the disruption, but it escalated recently with three reported stabbings.

“The scenes around Balloch and in Alexandria recently have been appalling and I am worried that this will continue and potentially become even worse as the summer continues."

She added: “After the deaths which have happened on the loch and in the River Leven in recent years, it is unforgivable that the troublemakers have damaged water safety equipment and drawn graffiti over warning signs. This could lead to people losing their lives and should not be tolerated.

“No-one wants to see this trouble erupting in our communities and so I have called together all of the agencies who have a responsibility to deal with this so action can be taken now, to stop the escalation in violence, before we get further into the busy summer season.”
