A MUCH-LOVED family-run pub in Dumbarton is set to have new owners next month.
The family of the former landlord Drew Busby of the Waverley Bar in West Bridgend will leave the business next Friday - which will mark a year since he passed.
We previously told that the son of the late Scottish football legend, who ran the pub for decades, announced on Twitter that the family was one step closer to "closing this chapter" in their story when the pub went up for lease.
Drew, best known in Scottish football circles for his six-year spell playing for Hearts in the 1970s, had been the landlord of the Waverley Bar for decades before he sadly passed away aged 74 following a period of illness in July last year.
Busby enjoyed spells with the likes of Airdrieonians (scoring 43 goals in 93 league appearances), Morton, Queen of the South and Third Lanark.
Sharing the latest news on social media, the Waverley Bar said: "It is with mixed emotions, that we wanted to share with you, that the Busby family are exiting the business at close of play on Friday, June 30.
"The 1 July 2023 marks the first anniversary of Drew's passing and it is fitting that the pub will reopen under new management the following week.
"Please come and toast our family's final night and raise a glass to 'the' Drew Busby and all of the team at The Waverley. They have all been amazing over the last year, stepped up to the mark and delivered a fantastic service on behalf of Drew. We could not have done it without them.
"We hope Drew is proud of what we have all achieved, with keeping the pub open under difficult circumstances.
"You all, Drew's pubs family have also been amazing, shown such tremendous support, help, advice and really looked after us. Drew would have been very appreciative.
"Thank you and we will remember all you did for us forever."
