ROADS bosses have confirmed plans for three weekends of complete closures on the main road between Dumbarton - Helensburgh including more details of the timings and exact location.

A stretch of the A814, on Cardross Road in Dumbarton, will be shut on July 8-9, July 15-16 and July 22-23.

The announcement from West Dunbartonshire Council came less than 24 hours after we reported on the confusion around when the work would take place and who was behind the closure.

The council initially said the work was being undertaken by Scottish Gas Networks (SGN), and the authority was only facilitating them.

But SGN denied responsibility.

Following the publication of our story on Thursday, the council posted an announcement on social media just before midday on Friday with more detail on the timing and the extent of the work.

The authority says resurfacing work will take place on Cardross Road, between the junction with Comelybank Lane (pictured below) and St Michael’s Primary School, on each of the three weekends.

The work will take place between 8am and 3.30pm each Saturday and Sunday, and the road will be closed to all traffic during these times.

West Dunbartonshire Council is facilitating the works and has issued advice to residents.

Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter:

A spokesperson said: "Residents within Oxhill Road should follow directions from traffic marshals who will direct them to the appropriate exit points when it is safe to do so.

"Vehicular access to properties will be restricted and residents who require access to their properties during operational time are advised to find alternative parking to minimise delays to journey times.

"Access to the IMO Car Wash will be maintained throughout the closure via the A814/A812 Renton Road junction.

"The road closure will be removed outwith these operational times to allow normal traffic flows to return.

"Access to St Michael’s Church will be provided and visitors should speak to traffic marshals on site.

"The council has an agreement with SPT to ensure the public can still travel during the road closure."

A diversion route will be put in place taking vehicles between Dumbarton and Helensburgh through Renton and Arden along the A82.

Vehicles travelling from Dumbarton towards Cardross and Helensburgh will be diverted via the A812 to Renton, the B857 through Renton and Alexandria, and the A811 in Alexandria and Balloch.

They will then join the A82 at the Stoneymollan roundabout and follow the trunk road north to Arden, then turn left on to the A818 to head to Helensburgh and, for traffic heading for Cardross and the west end of Dumbarton, back along the eastbound A814.

The diversion route from Helensburgh towards Dumbarton is the same in reverse.

The diversion route will be clearly signed and drivers are advised to allow additional time for any journeys.
