AN ALEXANDRIA man threatened to set fire to his partner's friend's house.

Jason Muir appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court after previously admitting to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner when he contacted his partner and her friend to make a threat on March 23 this year.

We previously told how he called his partner on Facebook Messenger and made the threat to set fire to her house during a short call.

During the call, Muir said 'I set fire to people's houses and make their lives a misery. Like I am going to do to [victim's name].'

His partner ended the phone call and soon after contacted the police.

Sentencing was previously deferred at Dumbarton Sheriff Court in May this year for a psychological assessment to be prepared.

The 24-year-old appeared at his recent hearing on June 27 where it was heard by his defence solicitor Jonathan Paul that social workers believed Muir would not need supervision.

At the hearing, Sheriff William Gallacher said: "I became very concerned about this case in relation to what your perspective was. I am prepared to accept any advice from those who have expertise in the matter."

Muir, of Halkett Crescent, Alexandria, was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work in the community within nine months.

He will be supervised by social workers until June 2025.

A non-harassment order was imposed for three years to prevent Muir from contacting or approaching his ex.
